I was a bias spectator, however after seeing the video & the photo the game ending play between Soquel & Menlo it clearly shows no interference by the runner into 2nd base. He slid right over the base, it should have been a non-call. Don't let over officiating decide games.

As a grandmother of a St. Francis Baseball player, I think you have done the team an injustice . Those students worked very hard to win the title. You are making a bigger deal out of Soquel winning this little tournament at H.W. park. The Baseball Boys should have been treated a little better in the Sentinel, after all most of the students at that school come from right here in Santa Cruz City.

Went to prep school for hoops during the 2012-13 school year. Word on the street is that he will try to play both football and basketball for arizona state this fall.

Jim Seimas, your article ‘Hale, Wargon help North edge South in
third annual Lions Senior Bowl’ kind of really bothered me. I mean, a lot of your articles about Aptos football piss of people in the Aptos Football family
and myself, I’m only now saying something about it because I’m sick of it. This article was written in a way that makes it sound like Soquel won a rematch
against Aptos. Not only was it not a rematch, but if it was, then Aptos still
won. When we completely threw out our offensive plan and plays and began
running the Wing - T, with just the Aptos o-line and running backs, when Hale
got his “rematch”, we scored three touchdowns, and the North only kicked a
field goal. The 2012 Soquel Knights have never beaten the 2012 Aptos Mariners,
and never will. Sorry Soquel, that’s the one record you will never break.

I didn’t write this to be malicious or confrontational, I
wrote this because I feel like (and I’m sure the rest of the Aptos Football
Family will agree with me) that the Sentinel, without fail, week in, week out,
robbed Aptos the respect we as players worked for through pain and blood to
achieve. I have a few questions for Jim Seimas and Andrew Matheson; why do you
hate Aptos Football, and why do you let it carry on to your work and writing?

This was a terrific decision by Joe and his family. My son Chris Viall was also a two sport athlete (baseball/basketball), and letting go of basketball junior year was one of the best decisions he ever made. No basketball freed up a huge amount of time to work on baseball skills, and all that work resulted in a baseball scholarship to Stanford in 2013. Joe has D-1 baseball tools, but another season of football and he might easily be lost in the shuffle of so many baseball-only prospects with more refined skills. Jack Ross at Palma, another excellent two-way athlete, recently made the same decision and now has many D-1's interested. These young men are merely sacrificing a little HS glory for a much more fulfilling college future.

And please don't call an extremely hardworking HS kid a "quitter," CrazyAl--that is in fact crazy.

Really Jim, are you kidding me, this is all you got. You do some really good work on local sports coverage and I respect you for that but this kid signed a contract with an English Premier League Club... The English Premier league. It is regarded as at least one of the best professional leagues in the world and a kid from our little town signs and this is all you got.

Are you miffed because he is turning his back on Knights soccer? You spilled more ink on the Mount Madonna boys volleyball team being undefeated in league play and the back and forth play of Gavilan vs Cabrillo baseball. I'm sure all those are fascinating subjects of sports journalism, however, I think a kid from our town going to the premier league might be a more remarkable event. How about two kids from Northern California playing against each other in the premier youth leagues. Liverpool just signed the Pelosi kid from just over the hill.

Don't get me wrong the local kid going to practice at Colorado State after getting stabbed is really good stuff but this is most likely a once in a lifetime event and I think it might warrant an additional line or two.
